:Commission: Sash by Taralen :Commission: Sash by Taralen
First time painting a swamp so please forgive me. OTL

This is a commission for :iconuinn:. It's her character Sash on the look out for intruders.

Impressive. I love the scales (they're a pain in the @$$ for me).  This is obviously far superior than what I can do, and the only tiny issue I can find with it is that the style of shading for his torso does not match up entirely with his surroundings and his snake parts. Then again, this is extreme nitpicking.

Thank you! And I see what you mean--I should have added some cel shade to his tail as well and made the background more defined. LOl c:
In animation the characters tend to be cel shaded (hard shading) while the background is either soft cel shade or painted. I tried to emulate this look with this image. :)

I understand. It's really just the contrast between his tail and his torso that seems the most off, and even then it doesn't look bad, per sae, it just makes it so his human parts pop a bit more. I've heard of cell shading, and want to learn how to do it some time, but I naturally tend to gravitate towards, softer, subtle shading which may be why I noticed this so much. Still, I will say again that this is far better than anything I have ever done and you should be proud of your talent.

I appreciate your input. X3 This is my first time coloring a naga character so I wasn't exactly sure how to do all the coloring but your comment helps! I'll take note of it when I draw my own snake characters. ;)
And thank you! >///<

No problem. It's nice to see that you are happy with my comment. I try to put some sort of critique or detailed compliment of a picture before I comment, just to show that I actually looked at it for more than 3 seconds. It annoys me when people just leave standard stock comments like "I love it" or "This is beautiful". I understand they are trying to be nice, but a lot of times I just feel as if they didn't really care too much about the picture.

Well I think it's also cause a lot of people are scared that if they give an insightful input the artist is gonna blow up on them. I've gave people critique before and they just blow up and say things like "I didn't ask for it so why did you give it!"
Honestly an artist who can't accept the imperfections of his/her work is a really immature one... I usually find that artists who openly bash any criticism they get are the ones who lack any real experience of commentary on their work outside of the internet... LOL
But thank you very much. c:

Yeah. Luckily I haven't really encountered any who blow up, but I definitely know they are out there, and that some of them have friends or fans who may gang up on you. For me personally, I would love to be critiqued or at least receive something longer than three words. But hey, beggars can't be choosers.

I've had many instances where I gave critique and had the artist's friends/fans ganged up on me. It's terrible and one of the reasons why I don't even bother giving any anymore.
